About the workshop
This workshop is an intense 3-days of inspiration, hard work, and productive learning.  Capture the magic of watercolors in this 3-day painting workshop with Alvaro Castagnet.  This is an opportunity to have fun learning from an energetic and colorful master of expression.  Alvaro begins with philosophical introduction and then follows by a simple “one go” demonstration.  The demo will focus on bold composition with understanding of the 4 pillars.  You will learn how to make quick decisions and simplify your subject to achieve the most impact.  We will discuss color relationships, tonal range, forms & shapes and edges.  Participants will paint until we break for lunch and Alvaro will assist with critique of works in progress.  Participants will be asked to start a second painting for the afternoon session, after the 2nd demonstration.   WEATHER PERMITTING AND WITH AGREEMENT FROM THE WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS, THERE MAY BE SOME ONSITE PAINTING (BE PREPARED TO TRAVEL TO LOCATIONS IF NEEDED).  Alvaro will supervise students until around 4 p.m.

On the last day, there will be the final critique session, where every participant will show the best painting they have produced and we will go home not only feeling great, with their achievement, but realizing how much they have learned after having so much fun, and with a clear understanding of the strength and weakness of their painting.

About the Artist
Alvaro Castagnet was born in Montevideo, Uruguay.  His early interest in art was cultivated mainly by his father, who sent him to the National School of Art in Montevideo at a very young age where he was taught by Professor Esteban Garino.  Alvaro continued his formal education in art at the Fine Arts University, where Miguel Angel Pareja was his oil painting tutor.  Alvaro has been holding solo exhibitions since 1985 and has been recognized with dozens of awards over the last 30 years.  He travels around the world, painting, demonstrating, lecturing, and judging art competitions.  He is the author of the out-of-print, “Watercolor Painting with Passion” and “Painting with Passion-Beyond Technique” books.

SWS Online Registration!
SWS is now asking all members to register online for workshops.
The full workshop fee is due at the time of registration. You can pay online with a credit card! Or you can still mail your check payment, payable to SWS. Mail check payments to: SWS, c/o Laurel Sweigart, P.O. Box 70564, Reno, NV, 89570.

The SWS will not secure a workshop seat without online registration and timely payment. If paying by check, your seat will be reserved for one week only without payment (so do not forget to put that check in the mail).

Online entry will streamline workshop management and payment processes, as well as allow for efficient communications with workshop attendees about the workshop:
Thank you for helping our fabulous SWS organization strive to make our volunteers' duties more efficent (and less time consuming).

We know this is still a relatively new process, so please do not hesitate to ask for assistance and clarification if you need help navigating the online form and payment procedures.
