2024 Schedule
"My desire is to bring to my work the imagination and curiosity which is so often found in children, and to combine that sense of wonder with an experienced hand".
Jeannie's workshop will focus on painting a spring still-life with her signature techniques using a limited palette of pure staining transparent hues. She is a versatile painter of portraits, still life, floral, landscape and fantasy and even a little steam punk. She states her feelings and interests as: nature, fun, mischief and magic, colorful delicacy, and nostalgia.
Lisa Jefferson has painted in watercolor for over 30 years and has been a member of SWS for 9 years. In this workshop she will focus on achieving a sense of realism using strong values, detail, interesting use of color, and a variety of textures. Artists attending will learn techniques including masking, controlled spattering, graded washes, layering, and glazing to create a realistic landscape featuring water, rocks, skies, and trees. Lisa encourages having fun and finding your individual style using the tools learned in this workshop.
ARTIST BIO Growing up in Colorado, Lisa Jefferson started drawing at an early age and received a lot of encouragement from her family and teachers. Lisa achieved a BFA in Graphic Design & Illustration from Colorado State University and worked in the printing industry for several years. She and her husband raised their family in northern Minnesota where she painted the beautiful shoreline of Lake Superior. Lisa became a full-time artist in 2004 and gained gallery representation and entered competitive watercolor exhibitions. Lisa has had paintings accepted and has won awards in several national and international watercolor exhibitions. She is a Signature Member in the Rocky Mountain Watercolor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, and the National Watercolor Society.
Please join us for a 3 day workshop with Iain Stewart, Architect and Fine Artist. Iain will focus on cityscapes, seascapes/water scenes and landscapes/skies in watercolor. This workshop has been rescheduled to take place in JULY. "I embrace the dialogue between the real and the imagined - seeking a way to allow myself to express my personal feelings of being in a certain setting rather than being confined by the reality of it. That ebb and flow, the back and forth, are what I find important and are my motivation for all my work."

David enjoys the challenge of working in harmony with a fluid medium. By providing the proper environment, surrendering some control, and working with the medium, the most beautiful results oftentimes occur naturally. To keep the paintings from getting too precise, and instead, to convey a feeling of aliveness, David utilizes a number of techniques such as working wet into wet, glazing, pouring, spattering, and spraying. These techniques not only keep the painting fresh, but produce exciting interminglings and textures effortlessly.
David’s favorite subjects tend to be found in nature and he loves to travel abroad as well as explore state and national parks for inspiration. Depicting a subject in great light, capitalizing on the contrast developed by light and shadow, while showcasing the assortment of jewels that happen naturally through the fluid medium keeps David eager to paint his next creation.
David has studied under numerous instructors in the states and in China. He has displayed his work in galleries and museums across the United States and his work has been awarded at the state and national level. David has received Signature Membership with the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, and others.
