About the Artist:
Tom Lynch has been referred as one of the nation’s premier watercolorists. He has written 7 books and hosted several award-winning PBS TV Art Series. He was recently listed as one of the nation’s top 20 teachers by a leading Art Magazine. He has been spokesperson for the entire National Art Materials Trade Association and continues to be the international spokesperson for many leading material manufacturers.
With his uniquely styled landscape paintings, he strives for a level of excitement, movement, and resonance that seems to push somewhere beyond that the environment naturally provides. When considering subjects, he tries to search for something striking; like the color of the sky, the direction of natural light, patterns of shadows, or the glint of sunlight on the water. He then embellishes those striking features. Tom is a natural teacher who is especially intuitive in developing the student’s own individual needs.
For 35 years students from all over the world who have attended his successful workshops have acclaimed them with high regard. Tom speaks openly and candidly. His paintings have the same intensity, expression, and direct appeal.
About the Workshop:
If this workshop sounds too advanced for you…Fear no more! I start the first day talking and teaching while doing a short demo; then work individually with everyone on… “How to think like and artist”…”Practicing new techniques” and repainting parts of the morning demo together.
The second day I work slowly and concentrate on the building blocks of what makes for a successful painting. Lessons on “How to see like an artist”… Having an art word before you start…Preliminary color studies…And the First Wash lessons. Lots of visuals, demos, and individual help.
The following days I do a morning demo, then answer questions and work individually on whatever the student wants or needs. If you can: dilute paint and apply, mix colors, apply paint with a round brush, experiment with wet into wet and dry brush and change value with water, you will NOT have a problem with this workshop.
